The after-sales service team at Nanxiang has compiled a list of the main reasons why air compressors may experience high temperatures and their corresponding solutions. It is recommended to bookmark this information for future reference.

The ambient temperature is too high and the ventilation is not good

The higher the environmental temperature, the higher the temperature of the air sucked in by the air compressor. The operating temperature range of most air compressors is 0°C-45°C, and the head exhaust temperature is around the cooling medium temperature +60°C. If the environmental temperature of the air compressor is higher than the operating temperature, it will significantly increase the load on the air compressor cooling system, decrease its heat dissipation performance, and in some cases, cause high temperature alarms or even shutdowns. The main method to effectively solve the high temperature problem of air compressors is to lower the environmental temperature and maintain good ventilation.

Insufficient oil level in air compressor

Insufficient oil level in an air compressor can also lead to high temperatures. Therefore, it is important to regularly check the oil level in the oil and gas tank during equipment operation, and the oil level should not be lower than the low level of the oil level gauge. If the oil level cannot be observed or the machine temperature is too high, stop the machine immediately and add oil.

Dirty oil filter problem

масляный фильтр

When the oil filter becomes clogged and the bypass valve is closed, the oil cannot reach the head of the air compressor, causing the main engine to quickly overheat due to lack of lubrication. Additionally, the reduced flow caused by the clogged filter means that there is not enough lubricating oil being sprayed into the compressor, which prevents the heat generated by the compression at the head from being quickly dissipated, leading to high temperatures in the machine.

Temperature control valve failure

воздушный компрессор

The temperature control valve plays a crucial role in regulating the flow of lubricating oil and ensuring that it enters the engine at an appropriate temperature. During startup, the valve remains closed, and the oil flows through a small loop directly into the engine. As the oil temperature rises to the valve’s opening threshold, it opens, allowing the oil to flow through a larger loop and cool down before entering the engine.

Use inferior lubricating oil or exceed the use time

Using low-quality lubricating oil may seem like a cost-effective option, but it can have negative effects on the performance and lifespan of your machinery. Inferior additives and base oil can lead to poor temperature resistance and increased risk of clogging, which can damage the rotor and bearings and cause frequent overheating. To avoid these issues, it is recommended to use original lubricating oil from the manufacturer and to follow maintenance guidelines for regular oil changes. Even original oil can become emulsified or clogged if used beyond its recommended lifespan, which can increase the risk of equipment failure and downtime.

Oil Cooler Problem

  • For water-cooled engines, it is important to check the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet pipes, which should be between 5℃ and 8℃. If it is lower than 5℃, there may be scaling or blockage, which can affect the cooling efficiency and cause poor heat dissipation. In this case, the heat exchanger should be removed and cleaned. Also, check the temperature and flow rate of the cooling water.

Air Cooling Mechanical Fan Problem

To troubleshoot air cooling mechanical fan problems, check for issues such as the fan not spinning, spinning in the wrong direction, or only partially functioning.

Air-cooled model exhaust duct problem

To troubleshoot the air-cooled model exhaust duct problem, it is important to check for issues such as a too-small windward surface on the exhaust duct, excessive bends in the middle of the exhaust duct, or an exhaust duct that is too long. If the exhaust duct is too long, an exhaust fan should be installed at the bends, and the flow rate of the exhaust fan should be greater than that of the original air compressor cooling fan.
