Draining Air Compressors – How To Get It Done Right

Many industries, including food and medicine, need to be waterless for compressed air in air compressors, but sometimes there is water in the air compressor, which hinders normal production.

What are the causes of water in the air compressor?

●The reason why the air compressor contains water is because the air always contains moisture, that is, humidity. After compression, it will become a supersaturated state and the water in the air will be isolated into liquid form. The amount of water in compressed air is related to the humidity of the air. If the environment in the machine room is too humid, it will cause the amount of water in the air to exceed the use standard.

●If the air compressor contains water, it could be due to either a blocked automatic drain valve in the compressor itself, or a blocked automatic drain valve in the storage tank.

●When a suitable air dryer is not installed or it malfunctions without being noticed and repaired in time, the compressed air from the air compressor cannot be treated properly, resulting in a large amount of water remaining and preventing the use of the equipment to its normal standards.

●To ensure the compressed gas meets required standards in production processes where air compressor gas quality requirements are especially stringent, precision filters and other systems are installed after the compressor to provide a second round of purification till desired conditions are achieved. Water is one contaminate that needs to be removed during this stage.

●Insufficient post-treatment measures, in the production process with very strict requirements for compressor gas quality, generally there will be precision filters and other facilities to further purify the gas until it meets the production requirements.

If you do not release water to the air compressor, it will lead to an increase in the water content in the compressed air, affect the gas quality, have an impact on the gas equipment at the back end, deteriorate the oil and gas separation effect, increase the pressure difference of the oil and gas separator, and cause rust of the parts, so we need to use the drain to assist the use of the air compressor.

Introduction of drainer:

●Automatic drainer :

Automatic drainers are used for automatically removing condensate water from places like low pipes, oil-water separators, gas tanks, and various filters. They can be installed in hard-to-reach places such as high or low spots, or tight spots. And they help to prevent the contamination of compressed air by condensate water that might occur if manual draining is forgotten.

●Electronic automatic drainer:

An electronic automatic drainer is an instrument composed of an analog circuit-based solid-state timer and an electromagnetic valve, used to drain condensed water from air compression systems. It is widely used in sieve machines, separators, dryers, gas storage tanks, and drip legs of air compression systems and can be adjusted to discharge water on a specified schedule and with regular intervals.
