Water Lubricated Oil-free Air Compressor

How to Choose the Right Oil & Gas Separator for Your Air Compressor

Air Compressor Water Separator Filter Why You Need One

The air compressor oil and gas separator, also known as the oil separator, is a crucial component that determines the quality of compressed air produced by the air compressor. A high-quality oil and gas separator not only ensures high-quality and pure compressed air, but also effectively guarantees the efficient operation of the air compressor.

The working principle of air compressor oil and gas separator:

Oil and gas separation generally consists of primary separation in the oil and gas tank and secondary separation in the oil and gas separator. When compressed air is discharged from the main exhaust port of an air compressor, it inevitably contains various sizes of oil droplets. The oil and gas mixture then enters the oil and gas tank, where most of the oil settles at the bottom of the tank due to centrifugal and gravitational forces. However, compressed air containing oil mist (oil particles suspended below 1um in diameter) must undergo secondary separation through the micron and fiberglass filter layers of the oil and gas separation filter.

The air compressor oil and gas separator works by using filter materials to diffuse and intercept oil particles, as well as using mechanisms such as inertial collision to condense suspended oil particles in compressed air into larger droplets. These droplets then gather at the bottom of the oil core due to gravity, and are returned to the main lubrication system of the machine through a secondary oil return pipe located at the bottom concave area. This process results in the discharge of compressed air that is purer and free of oil.

How often does the oil separator need to be replaced?

●Life cycle
The air compressor oil-gas separator has a design service life when it leaves the factory, and it will be replaced when the actual use time reaches the design service life. The service life of the oil and gas separation core is usually 4000-8000 hours, and must be replaced after expiration.
●Device alarm
The replacement frequency of the oil-gas separator is related to the operating environment of the air compressor. If a clogging alarm occurs within the design service life, it should be replaced immediately. The setting value of the oil-gas separator clogging alarm is usually 0.8-1.0bar.

What will be the impact of the extended use of the oil and gas separator?

The oil-gas separator is a crucial component of an air compressor, but extended use can lead to several issues.

●Firstly, poor separation can result in increased oil content in the compressed air, which can affect product quality.

●Secondly, attachments can accumulate over time, causing blockages and increasing energy consumption.

●Finally, prolonged use can cause the glass fiber filter separation material to fall off and enter the oil, leading to premature wear and tear of the oil filter and even the main engine. To prevent these problems and ensure efficient operation, regular inspection, maintenance, and timely replacement of the oil-gas separator are necessary.
